KUCHING: Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah wants ministry staff to be optimally creative and innovative at work.

He said in a world that is constantly chasing change and competition, it is essential for every staff member to have such work attitudes.

He said Sarawak is in an era of strengthening its digital development in various fields, including the economy, social sectors, education, agriculture and tourism.

He made these remarks during the Innovative and Creative Circle (ICC) Convention here on Monday (Aug 12).

“Digital tourism is one of the 18 pillars identified to be included in the Sarawak Tourism Master Plan. Digital tourism involves the use of digital tools to prepare, manage, control, and ultimately enjoy travel experiences,” he said.

“This necessity requires innovation and creativity from all parties, especially among the ministry’s staff and the framework for the elements of creativity and innovation also contributes to the smooth planning and implementation of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030), which encompasses the aspirations of the tourism sector.

“It involves initiatives that must develop the necessary infrastructure, connectivity, and support programmes that encourage the presence of visitors, whether for business or personal reasons such as entertainment and leisure activities.”

Abdul Karim hoped through the ICC activities driven by public servants, the ministry and its agencies will give their best commitment, particularly in improving work methods and the delivery of agency services to a more excellent and optimal level, as well as in producing innovative products that align with the development of the tourism sector, creative industry, and performing arts in Sarawak.

“We aim to make the tourism sector, creative industry, and performing arts in Sarawak an example and possibly a benchmark in Malaysia and, ultimately, among the top attractions globally,” he added.

He congratulated all the groups involved in the ICC project, hoping
the group that succeeds in representing the ministry at the Sarawak level will achieve outstanding success.

“To those who did not succeed, continue your efforts to cultivate innovative and creative practices in your respective duties and responsibilities, thereby making our ministry competitive in advancing Sarawak in the eyes of the world,” he added.

Also present during the ceremony were Deputy Ministers Datuk Snowdan Lawan and Datuk Sebastian Ting and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) Chief Executive Officer Sharzede Datuk Salleh Askor.
