KUCHING: Sarawak will usher in 2025 with a grand countdown celebration at the Kuching Waterfront.
State Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said over 10,000 people were expected to attend the event on Dec 31.
He said 2024 had been a good year for Sarawak with notable achievements such as hosting the Malaysia Games (Sukma) and hitting the tourism target of four million visitors in November.
"It's only right that we close it in a big way and welcome the new year with a bang.
"We hope 2025 will be an even better year for us," he told a press conference on Tuesday (Dec 17).
Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi will be the guests of honour at the countdown along with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
The celebration will begin in the morning with aerobics, musical performances and a visual arts exhibition.
The evening festivities will feature a welcoming dance and performances by local artists.
Sarawakian singer-songwriter Zee Avi and Indonesian artist Hetty Koes Endang will also appear on stage.
The countdown ceremony will culminate in a fireworks display to welcome the new year.
